"We have failed to pay due respect to Netaji. It is time this is corrected."

Lauding Netaji for his courage, Narayana Murthy said had Netaji been part of post-independence nation-building, India would have become the globe's second most powerful economy ahead of China.

West Bengal governor M K Narayanan said he would write to the central government for celebrating the day as Deshprem Divas across the country.

The governor and chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee garlanded Netaji's statue on Red Road in the city hub. Bhattacharjee and other Left Front leaders participated in a programme at the base of the statue where personnel of Kolkata Police, Rapid Action Force and National Cadet Corps took out a colourful march past.

Ashok Ghosh, state secretary of All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) - founded by Netaji in 1939 - requested the central government to declare Netaji's birthday as Deshprem Divas across the country in order to take his ideology to the nation's young generation. Netaji's statues across the state were garlanded and decorated with flowers, as youngsters raised the tri-colour in various localities.

Bhattacharjee later unveiled Netaji's statue at Noapara in North 24 Parganas district.

The state headquarters of AIFB organised a picture exhibition on Netaji and various moments of his life and struggle. State finance minister Asim Dasgupta garlanded Netaji's portrait at state secretariat- Writer's Building.

ALLAHABAD: Glowing tributes were paid to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on his 114th birth anniversary on Sunday.

Congressmen also paid tributes to this illustrious son of India. UPCC chief Rita Joshi garlanded the statue of Netaji at Civil Lines. She said that his entire life was a symbol of struggle and sacrifice.

Mayor Jitendra Nath Singh said that people should take inspiration from the life of Netaji.

Narendra Tiwari of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Samiti said that the truth behind Netaji's death is still unknown. He said that due to the lopsided policy of the Central government, the truth has not been brought into the limelight and this mystery is lost in the confidential files of the Central government.

Members of Bengali Social and Welfare Association (BSCA) paid tributes to Netaji. They garlanded the statue of Bose in Civil Lines. BSCA president Sahdev Mukherjee said that his birth anniversary should be declared a national holiday and he should be honoured with the title of Rashtranayak. He also demanded an end to the mystery surrounding Netaji's death and said that the report of Justice Manoj Kumar Mukherjee should be made public.

Activists of Jai Hind Foundation also paid tributes to Netaji. They lighted candles to pay tributes to the great nationalist.

City (north) MLA Anugrah Narayan Singh paid tributes to Netaji and recalled his contributions in the country's freedom.

Kolkata, Jan 23 (IANS) With the West Bengal government observing Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s birth anniversary Sunday as ‘Deshprem Divas’, Governor M.K. Narayanan said he would write to the central government for celebrating the day as ‘Deshprem Divas’ across the country.”I hope that all recognise the importance of having the day known as Deshprem Divas. I will write to the centre,” Narayanan said at a function on the legendary freedom fighter’s 114th birth anniversary here.
“I hope the day will be celebrated across the nation as Deshprem Divas from his next birth anniversary,” the governor said at the programme held at Netaji Bhavan.
Three days after the state cabinet cleared the proposal Jan 20, the state government Sunday celebrated the day as Deshprem Divas with functions being held in all districts and schools.
However, speaking at the Netaji Bhavan programme, Krishna Bose - the widow of Netaji’s late nephew Sisir Kumar Bose - said the day should be celebrated as Desh Seva Divas. “Why not call it Desh Seva Divas? I am not making any appeal to the central or the state governments. I am only putting the issue before the people”.
Bose, a former Lok Sabha member, said the people should take a pledge to do a “little something” for the “other India” which is backward and impoverished.

Agartala, Jan. 23 (ANI): The 114th birth anniversary of the charismatic leader of India’s freedom struggle, Subash Chandra Bose, was celebratedhere on Saturday in a special way.
On this occasion, a programme was organized by the students of Netaji Subash Vidya Niketan School in Agartala from where a colourful rally was also taken out in the morning.
The rally intended to draw public attention on Subhash Chandra Bose’s ideology and the freedom struggle and also focused on various burning social issues and evils.
“We are organizing the 114th Birthday of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, we are in apposition that different school students, guardians and government departments helped us to organize this in a successful manner.” the Principal of Netaji Subash Vidya Niketan School H.Debnath
said on Saturday.
Hundreds of school students, different organizations and clubs participated in the rally that traversed the main thoroughfares of Agartala amid thousand of spectators on both sides of the
roads turned up to witness the rally.
The onlookers also paid tribute to their hero Netaji, as Bose was popularly called, and who founded the Indian National Army (Azad Hind Fauj) to drive the British rulers out of India.
The Ajad Hind flag was raised along with the national flag on this day to remember Bose. The participants felt that youngsters should follow the ideals of Netaji to fight the evils of society.
“Netaji should be our ideal. If we take his path, we will take the nation to progess and we will also progress personally,” Soma Das, a participant said.
Born in a Bengali family of Cuttack, Subhash Chandra Bose was the catalyst in sowing the
seeds of independent India and revolutionary ideals in the minds of the youth of that time.
Though the death of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose remains a mystery despite several investigations, but official documents declassified by the Government says that the revolutionary leader was a victim of an air crash on August 18, 1945. In his death, Netaji sill remains an immortal hero. (ANI)

Kolkata, Jan 23 (IANS) West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee Saturday said that it was a great mistake on the part of the communists to doubt the patriotism of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose - a prominent figure in India’s freedom struggle.
“It was a great mistake on the part of the communists who had once doubted about the patriotic feelings of our great leader Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. There should not be any question about his patriotism at all,” Bhattacharjee said at a rally here on the 113th birth anniversary of Netaji.
He said: “There were some differences between the communists and Netaji as far as our political ideologies were concerned.”
Criticising the Congress-led government for promoting “one-sided history of India’s freedom struggle”, Bhattacharjee said that Netaji’s contribution to India’s freedom movement would always remain “unforgettable”.
“Gandhiji was definitely a great figure in the history of India’s freedom struggle, but we should not forget the contribution of Netaji,” the chief minister said.
“I don’t know how we will be able to dream about a modern India if we deny the role of Subhas Chandra Bose,” he said.
In the evening, Bhattacharjee also issued a written statement apologising for not garlanding the photo of Netaji on time at state secretariat Writer’s Buildings.
Senior leaders from Trinamool Congress and Congress had protested the delay in garlanding Netaji’s photo at the state secretariat.
“I agree that it was an administrative mistake. After I came to know about the incident, I personally spoke to both the state chief secretary and home secretary. Later, both of them garlanded the photo,” the statement said.

Narayana Murthy Sunday expressed shock over the country’s political leadership failing to pay due respect to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and said India would have become the second most powerful economy had the legendary freedom fighter been a part of post-Independence nation-building.”I was shocked to learn that Delhi does not have a single major avenue named after Netaji. Please correct me if I am wrong. I hope our wonderful prime minister will correct this lacunae,” Narayana Murthy said here.
“We have not paid him due respect. It is time this is corrected,” he said delivering the annual Netaji oration - “If only Netaji had participated in post-independence nation building” - on the leader’s 114th birth anniversary.
The corporate patriarch said role models like Netaji can instil courage, confidence, discipline and inspire those in the upper echelons of society to wipe the tears of their suffering compatriots.
He said independent India would have benefited a lot in areas like economic progress, population control and adopting modern agricultural methods if Netaji had been a part of post-Independence leadership.
“I believe India would have been a powerful exporter much before China if only Netaji had a frontseat in our policy making along with (Jawaharlal) Nehru… India would have seized the opportunity the world offered and would have become the second most powerful economy in the world,” Murthy said during the oration at the Netaji Research Bureau.
“Netaji was one of the most courageous leaders in India. Netaji was a real bold Indian leader who could have stood up to anyone… courage is one attribute which is more important in leadership than any other quality,” he said.
He also said Netaji’s presence would have made the country do a “much better job of population management”.
“India would have embraced modern methods of scientific agriculture and made us food surplus year on year. India would have embraced industrialisation better and become more export oriented than relying on import substitution which has led to all kinds of problems,” he said.
Narayana Murthy said Netaji would have been a wonderful ally of Nehru in starting a fast paced programme in controlling India’s population. “He would have continued and perhaps would have accelerated our efforts to control population through fair and transparent method”.
He said the country needed to lay stress on exports in rural manufacturing as China has done. “Such a policy does create good disposable income for rural folks which will then spawn jobs in the secondary and tertiary areas of our rural economy,” he said.

Agartala, Jan 23 (IANS) The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Sunday reiterated its demand to declare Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s birthday Jan 23 as “Deshprem Divas”.”We once again urge the centre to observe Netaji’s birthday as ‘Deshprem Divas’ throughout the country,” CPI-M general secretary Prakash Karat told reporters here.
“Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, responding to a letter of four Left parties, has recently expressed his government’s inability to declare such an occasion,” he added.
Besides CPI-M, the Communist Party of India, the Revolutionary Socialist Party and the Forward Bloc too have been asking the centre to officially celebrate the day as “Deshprem Divas”, but the government turned down the plea saying that such a move will trigger a flurry of similar demands with regard to other freedom fighters and national leaders.
“The government’s logic is unacceptable. Former prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s birthday has been celebrated as Children’s Day. If the centre declares Netaji’s birthday as ‘Deshprem Divas’, it could be observed as a national integration day across India,” Karat added.
The CPI-M has also urged other political parties to raise the issue with the central government.

Kolkata: The 114th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was celebrated across West Bengal today.

All India Forward Block State General Ashok Ghosh today marked the beginning of the celebration by garlanding the statue of Netaji.

The main programme, however, was held at Red Road where Left Front leaders, including Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, Left Front Chairman Biman Bose and Ashok Ghosh were present.

Presiding over the function, Forward Bloc State General Secretary Ashok Ghosh stressed the need to inculcate the ideals of Netaji to save the nation from evil designs by the terrorists and anti-nationals and strengthen the country's national integrity.

"We are at the crossroads of terrorism and acts of anti-nationals, which we have to overcome encouraged by the ideals of Netaji," Ghosh said.

Ghosh, however, regretted that despite requests, the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was yet to announce January 23, Birthday of Netaji, as 'Desh Prem Divas'.

He demanded that "the PM must announce it immediately for a nationwide celebration".

Later in the day Ghosh garlanded the statue of Bose at Salt Lake and inaugurated the programme on Netaji.

Bhattacharjee, on the other hand, unveiling the statue at Noyapara in North 24 Parganas said, "Netaji was a socialist and wanted equality for all his dreams were not fulfilled".

Trinamool Congress, on the other hand, organised a blood donation camp at South Kolkata, where 819 people donated blood, crutch and wheel chairs to the physically challenged and mosquito nets to the poor.

Trinamool leader Nirmal Majhi, Mayor Sovon Chattopadhyay and Partho Maharaj of Ramkrishna Mission were present on the occasion.

At Netaji Bhavan here on Elgin Road, N.R. Narayana Murthy, founder of Infosys, delivered the Netaji Oration 2011 on “If only Netaji had participated in post-independent India building”.

He said India would have emerged as the second most powerful economic power in the world if Netaji had been engaged in post-Independence nation building.

"India would have done a much better job," he said, regretting the absence of Netaji in post-Independence India, urging all to correct the historical wrongs done to Netaji's legacy.

Singer Pramita Mallick performed a special Netaji Birthday Concert while West Bengal Governor M K Narayanan presided over the function.

The governor said he would write to the Centre so that the birthday of Netaji was observed across the country with due respect.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today led the nation in paying tributes to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on his 114 birth anniversary. Dr. Singh, BJP leader L K Advani and other parliamentarians offered floral tributes at the portrait of Netaji in the Central Hall of Parliament. A booklet containing the profile of the freedom fighter, brought out in Hindi and English by the Lok Sabha secretariat, was presented to the dignitaries.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday led the nation in paying tributes to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on his 114 birth anniversary.
Singh, BJP leader L K Advani and other parliamentarians offered floral tributes at the portrait of Netaji in the Central Hall of Parliament.
A booklet containing the profile of the freedom fighter, brought out in Hindi and English by the Lok Sabha secretariat, was presented to the dignitaries.
The portrait of Netaji was unveiled by then President N Sanjiva Reddy in the Central Hall on January 23, 1978.

City celebrated the 114th birth anniversary of Subhash Chandra Bose by organising several programmes. Chief Minister Arjun Munda and JMM Supremo Shibu Soren were also present during a programme near Kutchery Chowk.

Chief Minster Arjun Munda offered floral tributes to the idol of the great revolutionary leader near Kutchery Chowk. While addressing people Munda said: “The entire life of Netaji is a learning process for all of us. His behaviour and teachings lead to the perfect development of the country. He believed in generating the youth power and encouraging them to work for their nation. His vision and his goals were clear for achieving independence.”

Around 300 people were present on the occasion and remembered the great leader amidst cultural presentations by school students. Children from Balika Shiksha Bhawan presented a group song ‘Kadam kadam badhaye ja’ and recalled the vision of Netaji.

JMM Supremo and Chairperson of State Coordination Committee, Shibu Soren offered flowers to the leader and remembered his fight for independence.

City based Bengali Association organised the programme to remember Bose and his undying participation during the independence struggle. General secretary of the association Supriyo Bhattacharya informed about the programme and the participation of school students.

The 114th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was observed throughout Haryana today in a befitting manner.
Functions were organised at every district headquarter and rich tributes were paid to the brave son of India.
Paying rich tributes to Netaji, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said that Netaji was a great revolutionary and a patriot whose contribution to the freedom struggle of the country could never be forgotten. He formed Indian National Army (INA) to free the nation from the clutches of the Britishers. He sacrificed his all at the altar of the motherland. To work for strengthening the unity and integrity of the country would be true tributes to this hero of the freedom struggle.
He said that the nation was indebted to our freedom fighters and patriots. The Haryana Government had taken a number of steps for the welfare of the freedom fighters and their family members. The monthly pension of freedom fighters had been increased from Rs 1525 to Rs 11000 and financial assistance being given for solemnizing the marriages of the daughters and sisters of freedom fighters and the members of INA had also been increased from Rs 10000 to Rs 51000.

New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi today paid tributes to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on his 114th birth anniversary.

A function was organised on the occasion near Netaji's statue installed in Subhash Park at Subhash Marg opposite Red Fort, an MCD statement said.

Area Councillor Suman Kumar Gupta garlanded the statue on behalf of the Corporation.

A number of other senior officers also paid floral tributes to Netaji.

The 114th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was observed across West Bengal on Sunday. All India Forward Block State General Ashok Ghosh on Sunday marked the beginning of the celebration by garlanding the statue of Netaji. The main programme, however, was held at Red Road where Left
Front leaders, including Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, Left Front Chairman Biman Bose and Ashok Ghosh were present.
Presiding over the function, Forward Bloc State General Secretary Ashok Ghosh stressed the need to inculcate the ideals of Netaji to save the nation from evil designs by the terrorists and anti-nationals and strengthen the country's national integrity.
"We are at the crossroads of terrorism and acts of anti-nationals, which we have to overcome encouraged by the ideals of Netaji," Ghosh said.
Ghosh, however, regretted that despite requests, the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was yet to announce January 23, Birthday of Netaji, as 'Desh Prem Divas'. He demanded that "the PM must announce it immediately for a nationwide celebration".
Later in the day Ghosh garlanded the statue of Bose at Salt Lake and inaugurated the programme on Netaji.
Bhattacharjee, on the other hand, unveiling the statue at Noyapara in North 24 Parganas said, "Netaji was a socialist and wanted equality for all his dream was not fulfilled".
Trinamool Congress, on the other hand, organised a blood donation camp at South Kolkata, where 819 people donated blood, crutch and wheel chairs to the physically challenged and mosquito nets to the poor.
Trinamool leader Nirmal Majhi, Mayor Sovon Chattopadhyay and Partho Maharaj of Ramkrishna Mission were present on the occasion.

Bhubaneswar: The state on Sunday commemorated and paid tribute to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Veer Surendra Sai on their 144th and 203rd birth anniversary with chief minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurating the newly made arch at Janakinath Bhawan at Odia Bazaar in Cuttack, the birthplace of Netaji.

After the inauguration, Patnaik visited the Netaji museum.

“On Netaji’s birth anniversary I inaugurated the beautiful gate and also laid the foundation stone for a tourist park next to his birth place”, said chief minister Naveen Patnaik.

On the occasion, the streets of Cuttack were packed with crowds participating in patriotic rallies in remembrance of the prominent freedom fighter. A large number of visitors were witnessed at Janakinath Bhawan who were paying homage to the statue of Netaji. School children dressed up like Netaji visited the Netaji museum.

Famous Yoga guru Baba Ramdev, who is in Orissa these days also visited Netaji’s birthplace and paid obeisance to the great freedom fighter.

“Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose is the pride of Cuttack, Orissa, Bengal and of the whole nation. He is the ideal for not only patriots of India but also patriots of the world”, said Yoga guru Baba Ramdev.

Meanwhile, meetings and programmes were organized at Khinda village in Sambalpur, the birthplace of Veer Surendra Sai to commemorate his sacrifice. People paid homage to the freedom fighter on his 203rd birth anniversary.

“Surendra Sai had sacrificed his life for our village and for the entire nation. We feel proud for him”, said great grandson of Surendra Sai, Lal Virendra Sai.

HOWRAGHAT, Jan 23: With rest of the country the birth anniversary of Subhash Chandra Bose was celebrated at Howraghat town. The Netaji’s birth anniversary function organized by the Netaji Welfare Society (NWS), an NGO started by hoisting the National and NGO’s flags in the morning. The National Flag was hoisted by Rajendra Kumar, CO, Red Horn Division 5th Rajtputana Rifles. The Army officer also delivered a short speech on the life of Subhash Chandra Bose and his dedication for the country.
On the other hand, the flag of the NWS was hoisted by Muktalal Das, president, NWS. A national integrity rally was taken out at Howraghat town where different section people, students of different educational institutions took part. Besides, during the birth anniversary function, Binit Chetry, Captain of Red Horn Division 5th Rajtputana Rifles and his company jawans actively participated. During the day-long programme different events of competition like art and quiz were organized among the students.

RANCHI: As Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was remembered on his 114th birth anniversary all over the country including Jharkhand, people apparently ignored his teachings. The All India Forward Bloc the party the leader floated in 1939 to carry forward the spirit of independent and robust India lost its existence in the state during the previous assembly election with one MLA Bhanu Pratap Shahi turning rebel and declaring himself not-associated with the outfit while the other legislator Aparna Sengupta having lost the poll.

No wonders that the political party preferred pulling down curtains on any programme or introspection to revisit the teachings of Netaji on his birth anniversary. The Forward Bloc office in Ranchi remained deserted on Sunday.

Governor MOH Farook garlanded Netaji's photograph at Rajbhawan while chief minister Arjun Munda and chairman BJP-JMM-AJSU co-ordination committee Shibu Soren attended a small ceremony near court campus. Garlanding the statue of Netaji, Soren said leaders like Subhas Bose were true leaders, following whom was a matter of pride. "Instead of fighting in the name of caste and religion, Netaji should be treated as god of modern times so that people can think about betterment of nation," Soren said.

Munda paid his respect to Netaji saying that present day politics had deviated from the standards set by the heroes of pre-independent India. "We must realize the determination with which Netaji fought for the freedom of the nation against the most powerful British army of yesteryears and even sacrificed his life," he said.

Several programmes were organized in the capital where small groups celebrated the birth anniversary of Netaji in their own ways. Morning prayers were held at Netaji Nagar near Kantatoli, whereas cultural programmes were staged at Union Club and Deshopriyo Club.

While addressing the Youth Congress activists having assembled over the occasion,. Pathania gave a clarion call to the party workers and the general masses to emulate the charismatic leader, his ideology, concept of independent ‘Bharat” and characteristic life-style.

Pathania said that the concept of ‘purna swaraj’ was so beautifully and forcefully projected by Netaji that Congress was forced to adopt it in Lahore session. His address to Congress workers after assuming the office of President of Congress at Tripuri in 1939 is really a memorable master-piece for its far-sightedness, outstanding vision and relevance towards the political landscape of India, he had talked of population control, uniform civil code, National Planning Committee



Pathania further called for treading upon the path shown by the intellectual giant who was not only an outstanding leader but a visionary, karamyogi and a globalist par excellence. Youth Congress leader further lamented that Netaji has been denied his rightful place in the annals of Indian history.

Agartala, Jan 23, 2011 : The 115th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was celebrated along with entire nation with great enthusiasm and fervor.

The main function of Netaji birth anniversary was celebrated in Netaji Subhash Vidhyaniketan School premises in Agartala. School Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty inaugurated the function at Netaji School ground on Sunday morning. From the school a colorful procession was brought out like previous years. The colourful procession of more than 1000 students passed through the packed roads of the capital.

School students with traditional and colourful attires on multiple themes with social awareness and other folk songs with dances participated in the procession.

Different schools, NGOs and government departments with various cultural attire also participated in the procession.

Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy today criticised the political leadership of the country for failing to show due respect to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and said it is "time this is corrected".
"We have not paid due respect to Netaji. It is time this is corrected," entrepreneur-cum-thinker Murthy said here voicing concern over the leadership lacunae.
Delivering the Netaji oration on the occasion of his birth anniversary at the Netaji Research Bureau, Murthy said, "I was shocked to learn that there is not single a major avenue named after Netaji in Delhi. Correct me, if I am wrong. I hope our wonderful Prime Minister will correct this lacunae."
Describing Netaji as the most courageous leader of his time, the iconic corporate leader said that his presence would have spearheaded India to become the second most powerful economy of the world ahead of China.
Had he been present at the post-Independent reconstruction era along with Nehru, Rajaji, Patel and Shyama Prasad Mookherjee, India's destiny would have been different, he observed.
"India would have also done a much better job in terms of people management as he foresaw the negative impact of a burgeoning population on a country's economy," Murthy said.
"Netaji had all the smartness to take India far from what it is now today," he said and observed sarcastically that "nowadays, we talk loud even about very mediocre achievements".
Meanwhile, West Bengal governor MK Narayanan said that Netaji's birthday on January 23 should be observed as 'Desh Prem Divas'.

"I hope that from next year onwards, the day will be observed as Desh Prem Divas," he said.

"We have not paid due respect to Netaji. It is time this is corrected," entrepreneur-cum-thinker Murthy said here voicing concern over the leadership lacunae.




Delivering the Netaji oration on the occasion of his birth anniversary at the Netaji Research Bureau, Murthy said, "I was shocked to learn that there is not single a major avenue named after Netaji in Delhi. Correct me, if I am wrong. I hope our wonderful Prime Minister will correct this lacunae."
Describing Netaji as the most courageous leader of his time, the iconic corporate leader said that his presence would have spearheaded India to become the second most powerful economy of the world ahead of China.

Had he been present at the post-Independent reconstruction era along with Nehru, Rajaji, Patel and Shyama Prasad Mookherjee, India's destiny would have been different, he observed.

"India would have also done a much better job in terms of people management as he foresaw the negative impact of a burgeoning population on a country's economy," Murthy said.

"Netaji had all the smartness to take India far from what it is now today," he said and observed sarcastically that "nowadays, we talk loud even about very mediocre achievements".

Meanwhile, West Bengal Governor MK Narayanan said that Netaji's birthday on January 23 should be observed as 'Desh Prem Divas'.

"I hope that from next year onwards, the day will be observed as Desh Prem Divas," he said.

Subhash Chandra Bose no 'icon' for UPA Govt
New Delhi: On January 23, 2008, India will celebrate the 111th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose but the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government seems to have had forgotten him.

The Congress has always been uncomfortable with Subhash Chandra Bose's call for a march to Delhi. So, till last year, the entire Manmohan Singh Cabinet had forgotten to salute him.

Despite being so secretive about information on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, it's indeed surprising that the government which has spent more that Rs 200 crore in a year on advertisements of eminent Indian personalities do not consider Netaji worthy enough to be on the list.

From January 2006 to January 2007, the UPA government has spent Rs 109 crores on bringing out advertisements in newspapers while Rs 100 crore was spent in television advertisements.
However, not a single rupee was spent to spread the message of Netaji, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry has replied in an RTI query.

Interestingly, the ministry is under Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi, who is from Netaji's home state West Bengal.

"Perhaps the person who has contributed the most to get independence is completely forgotten by our government," Devashish Bhattacharya, an RTI activist, says.

To add insult to injury the government refuses to give Netaji the title of the country's first commander-in-chief.

Netaji's Indian National Army was the first to raise the Indian national flag on Indian soil almost three years before the nation achieved independence.

Shillong pays glowing tributes to Netaji
Shillong, Jan 23 (PTI) The city paid rich tributes to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and slogans like ''Netaji Zindabad'' and ''Vandemataram'' filled the air on the 114th birth anniversary of the veteran freedom fighter today.
People held portraits of Netaji and took part in ''Prabhat Pheris'' (morning processions).
Floral tributes were paid at the Netaji Square at Jail Road, the Netaji statue at State Central Library premises and other parts of the city.
Hoisting the National Flag in front of the Netaji statue, state Power Minister Abu Taher Mondal called upon the people, especially the youth to learn from the life of Netaji.
He said that it was Netaji who recognized and lauded the grassroot democracy that had been practiced since ancient times in the Khasi Hills.
Naba Bhattacharjee, President of the Greater Shillong Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Birthday Celebration Committee, regretted that revolutionary icons like Netaji were spared little space in history books.
Netaji, in his endeavour to install the first Congress Government in undivided Assam in 1938, had threatened the then governor that if Congress was not allowed to form a government then all Congress governments in the country would resign.
This worked well and finally the governor agreed to allow a Congress Government under the premiership of Gopinath Bordoloi on November 18, 1938, he said.

JAMMU: Describing Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose as true nationalist, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand said that Netaji was one of the tallest leaders of freedom struggle and real tribute to the great leader is to follow the path shown him. He said Netaji was among the greatest patriots who fought for the Indian freedom.
Tara Chand was speaking at a function organised in Town Hall Jammu to commemorate 114th Birth Anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, here on Sunday. The function was organised by Freedom Fighters Association (FFA).
Commissioner, JMC S.C Sahani, Director Information Khawaja Farooq Renzoo Shah besides senior functionaries of FFA and prominent citizens attended the function.
While recalling contributions of Netaji, the Deputy Chief Minister said formation of Indian National Army was his biggest contribution by which an organised army was established to fight against the aggression of British forces. He said on his clarion call thousands of youth from all across the Nation joined the movement and gave their lives for freedom struggle.
Tara Chand also attended an impressive function to mark Birth Anniversary of Netaji at Gandhi Nagar.
The function among others was attended by MLA, Bhaderwah Mohammad Sharief Niaz, MLC Narish Gupta, former MLAs Jugal Kishore, Yogesh Sawhney, Gharu Ram and Janak Raj Gupta besides prominent members of civil society.
Speaking at the function the Deputy Chief Minister asserted the Bengali brave heart took on the mighty British empire and forced them to flee the Nation, adding that Netaji was among those leaders who called for ‘Purna Swaraj’ that is complete freedom from the British rule.
“Young generation needs to be sensitised about the sacrifices our great freedom fighters have made and now it’s up to the youth to imbibe the spirit of nationalism and work for the cause of Nation,” added Tara Chand. Later, while addressing a public darbar at Pucca Talab the Deputy Chief Minister gave a patient hearing to the problems faced by the people of the area.
Prominent among those present at the public darbar were MLC, Abdul Gani Vakil and Ex-MLA Balwan Singh besides large number of people of the area.
While speaking to the gathering, the Deputy Chief Minister stated all round development of State is the resolve of government and various development initiatives have been taken to make the State a Model State.
He maintained that present government is carrying forward the development revolution started by Ghulam Nabi Azad and under the young and dynamic leadership of Omar Abdullah mega development projects have been launched in the State. Tara Chand assured that all genuine issues of the people would be addressed and passed on instructions to the concerned to do the needful.

Multifaceted activities marked the main function that was organised by the Punjabi Sabhyachar Manch to celebrate Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s 113th birth anniversary at the Sawan Public School here today.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ramesh Verma, Senior Medical Officer, Nehru Memorial Civil Hospital, said Netaji sacrificed his life for the freedom of India.
He said that the formation of the Indian National Army (INA) by Netaji was the first triumph of the Indian National Congress but for the British, it was a big setback, which ultimately compelled them to leave India.
Former SDM BL Sikka said Netaji was a man of his words and never compromised on the dignity of the nation. Netaji always opposed the policies of the British rulers and spread the message to throw off the foreign yoke and never stooped to the arrogance of the British rulers and instead fought against their policies and the treatment they meted out to the Indians.
Mahila Paropkarini Sabha chairperson Jamuna Devi Chawla said the best homage to Netaji would be to follow his mission and spread the message of peace and tranquility, which he gave to the nation during the freedom struggle.
Manch president Gurcharan Singh Gill said maintaining communal harmony was the first step towards peace and cautioned people against forces that were adamant on dividing the people on the basis of caste, creed and religion.
Representatives of different NGOs including veteran social activist Chaman Lal Wadhwa, Ramesh Bajaj, Des Raj Kamboj, Ramesh Middha, Parminder Sachdeva, Dr Rupinder Singh, Narinder Singh Dhanoa, principal Savita Ahuja, teachers and students offered flowers petals at Netaji's portrait.
On the occasion, a two-minute silence was observed to mourn the demise of the IFFCO chairman Surinder Kumar Jakhar. BL Sikka said Jakhar would be remembered not only as a pioneer of the cooperative movement but also as beacon for the NGOs.
After the function, SMO Dr Ramesh Verma inaugurated a polio camp to administer pulse polio drops to kids as part of the National Polio Prevention Programme.

Hazaribagh (Jharkhand), Jan 23 (PTI) Asking people to follow the path shown by the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha today said, had the people of the country followed the path shown by the Netaji the "picture of India" would have been different.

"But our countrymen are yet to achieve things that the Netaji had shown to us," Sinha said on the occasion of the 114th birth anniversary of the veteran freedom fighter here.

"It is true that our country made progress in many fields, but no one has accomplished the characteristics of the Netaji, whose boldness during India's struggle for freedom was well known," claimed Sinha.

"Men of the Azad Hind Force sacrificed their lives following Netaji's slogan 'Hamen Khoon Do Hum Tumhe Azadi Dengey'," Sinha said while recalling the great leader's efforts during the freedom movement.

Netaji’s ‘ Delhi Challo’

GUARDIAN NEWS BUREAU SHILLONG, JAN 22: Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s clarion war cry “ Delhi Challo”, exhorting the people to march “ onward to Dehli” is still relevant in several ways, especially in the North Eastern Region of the country, which, ironically has still to look up to the national capital even for regime change in its states.
“ Netaji’s historical call was significant. He urged the British- enslaved people of the country to go forward and capture the seat of power, which was Delhi,” says a veteran tribal freedom fighter associated with the Indian National Army ( INA), who does not want to be named.
“ Look, we cannot do anything, can’t even move an inch literally without the consent of New Delhi. Netaji, being the great patriot, politician, administrator, statesman and a person who could foresee the future coined this slogan, which will be relevant for Indians for ages to come,” the freedom fighter, who is a regular at every birthday celebration of Netaji in the city, maintains.
Rounak Hazarika, a student pursuing history has a very different take on Netaji’s historic call. “ Even the insurgent outfits in the North East, who, wrongly or rightly are fighting for the emancipation of their own peoples have Delhi in mind. It is a symbolic confrontation with the perceived atrocities heaped on them by Delhi that they are fighting against,” he maintains.
“ Why, for that matter, even the Ulfa and the NSCN are looking up to Delhi to resolve their respective problems; It’s after all Delhi, where there are going to go to arrive, if at all at a ‘ final solution’ to their ‘ revolutionary woes’,” says James Syngkhon, who has been closely studying the insurgent movement in the North East and its ‘ similarity’ with the armed war that Subhash Bose had launched to dislodge the British from India.
The patriotic fervour of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, which is a source of inspiration for struggling people all across the globe, could also provide light for a solution to the decades old “ Indo- Naga problem”, especially at a time when peace negotiation is on, feels Vekho Swuro, author of the book ‘ Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose: Delhi Chalo Last Camp in Nagaland’. “ In Netaji we are one. Had Netaji not come to Nagaland, I would not have been here today. I value his every foot step,” the author, who has written a comprehensive account of Netaji’s historic stay in Nagaland, had declared on occasion of the birthday of the legendary leader in the city a few years ago.
“ The Nagas have already given their wealth, their lives and their best service to Netaji with an aim to throw out the British rule to attain freedom. Down from history to this day, Indo- Naga problem is not solved and at present peace negotiation is still going on,” he had pointed out.
“ We are in need of a dedicated leader. We must produce committed leaders for which we need to come forward with wise decision. We urge our fellow Indians across Bharat to acknowledge the deeds of our beloved Neta,” Swuro had exhorted.
“ Let Netaji’s birthday be a landmark for the people of North- East to jointly uphold the thoughts, words and deeds of the great patriot and the dawn of a new era to re- evaluate the life and works of the ‘ Prince of Patriots’. Netaji gave his life for our nation and we should reciprocate by giving our best.” Mentionably, on July 4, 1944, at a rally of Indians in Burma, Bose famously proclaimed, " Give me blood, and I shall give you freedom." " Delhi Chalo," another phrase attributed to him, became the clarion call of the INA combatants as they marched towards the Indian Territory to liberate the mother land.

Pathania said that the concept of ‘purna swaraj’ was so beautifully and forcefully projected by Netaji that Congress was forced to adopt it in Lahore session. His address to Congress workers after assuming the office of President of Congress at Tripuri in 1939 is really a memorable master-piece for its far-sightedness, outstanding vision and relevance towards the political landscape of India, he had talked of population control, uniform civil code, National Planning Committee

Pathania further called for treading upon the path shown by the intellectual giant who was not only an outstanding leader but a visionary, karamyogi and a globalist par excellence. Youth Congress leader further lamented that Netaji has been denied his rightful place in the annals of Indian history.

Subhas Chandra Bose. The great Indian freedom fighter. In our Independence struggle, a lot of people have played an important role. Netaji’s contribution is right in the forefront. Academically sound, he had no illusions of what he did. At a time when most of India was poor and illiterate, he was one of the very few educated, privileged people to dedicate his life to India’s struggle for Independence. Believer in the Bhagavad Gita and Swami Vivekanand’s teachings, his beliefs had no sense of orthodoxy to them. Unfortunately, many years after India’s Independence, we still have people preaching and following religion in a wrong way. Our politics is becoming more regional than national, which is not a good sign. What if Netaji would have worked only for the benefit of Bengal, just because he was a Bengali? What if Netaji would have worked only for the benefit of the Upper classes simply because he came from a Kayasth family? What if Netaji would have used his force and influence to accumulate mass wealth for himself and stored it in the Swiss Bank? What if every Indian freedom fighter would have behaved the way our politicians are behaving today?
“If we are to bring about a revolution of ideas we have first to hold up before us an ideal which will galvanise our whole life. That ideal is Freedom. But freedom is a word which has a varied connotation and even in our country, the conception of freedom has undergone a process of evolution. By freedom I mean all-round freedom i.e., freedom for the individual as well as for society, freedom for man as well as for woman, freedom for the rich as well as for the poor, freedom for all individuals and for all classes. This freedom implies not only emancipation from political bondage but also equal distribution of wealth, abolition of caste barriers and social iniquities and destruction of communalism and religious intolerance. This is an ideal which may appear Utopian to hard-headed men and women — but this ideal alone can appease the hunger of the soul.”

Unfortunately the soul is still hungry. Social inequalities are widening. Religion, region and caste based politics are the flavor of Indian politics. And they say, Netaji survived till 1985 & lived as Sanyasi in Allahabad. Independence for people like Netaji did not mean freedom just from the English. Had he been alive, he would not have rested even for a minute to ensure the well being of the nation.
Indian revolution always had purpose. It never had the organization that Netaji gave it. “Tum mujhe khoon do, main tumhe azadi doonga!” It was the greatest appeal ever made for freedom. I still get goose bumps when I read or remember the epic quote. Eventually whether you like it or not the final stages of our Independence struggle deviated away from Gandhiji’s principle of non violence. Netaji, though having ideological differences with Gandhiji, was the first to refer to him as Father of the Nation. Different methods, different regions, different religions, different castes did not bother him. Raising the INA was one of the biggest and direct acts of defiance and war against the British. Though unsuccessful it directly inspired the mutiny of soldiers in the British Indian Army. The INA trials were the rallying point for Indian Independence. Soldiers in the British Indian Army driven by maybe guilt of fighting against the INA and supporting the British openly defied their British superiors. The nationalistic euphoria that swept the nation was enough to end the British rule in India. What more can one say about the man who influenced it all?
Though times maybe different and difficult today, it is people like Subhas Chadra Bose that we need to look up to. Their ideologies and principles are things that I admire them for. I’ll end with two quotes by Netaji, one which inspires me and I hope it inspires you too and the other which every Indian, wherever he may be in the world, knows.
“Remain true to India and do not for a moment waver in your faith in India’s destiny”

‘Will seek celebration of Netaji’s birthday as Deshprem Divas’
Kolkata, Jan 23: With the West Bengal government observing Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s birth anniversary on Sunday as ‘Deshprem Divas’, Governor MK Narayanan said he would write to the central government for celebrating the day as ‘Deshprem Divas’ across the country. “I hope that all recognise the importance of having the day known as Deshprem Divas. I will write to the centre,” Narayanan said at a function on the legendary freedom fighter’s 114th birth anniversary here. Three days after the state cabinet cleared the proposal on January 20, the state government Sunday celebrated the day as Deshprem Divas with functions being held in all districts and schools. However, speaking at the Netaji Bhavan programme, Krishna Bose - the widow of Netaji's late nephew Sisir Kumar Bose - said the day should be celebrated as Desh Seva Divas. Bose, a former Lok Sabha member, said the people should take a pledge to do a “little something” for the “other India” which is backward and impoverished. (IANS)

Today it's the 115th birth anniversary of "The Prince among the Patriots", Netaji Shubhas Chandra Bose. Till today, we don't know HOW or WHY this great man disappeared after the Taihokou crash. We strongly condemn the unperturbed attitude of The Government of India regarding this major issue. The reluctance present in the Governmental activities in order to reveal the truth about Netaji is indeed raising many questions in our minds. I think that it is high time for us to organize a nation-wide protest in order to pressurize the Government to de-classify the papers which can throw some light over the mysterious disappearance of Chandra Bose in 1945. At least, the people of this nation have the right to know, "WHY THIS NATIONAL HERO WAS CAREFULLY 'ELIMINATED' WHEN THE NATION WAS ON THE VERGE OF WINNING FREEDOM DUE TO HIS UNFORGETTABLE STRUGGLE AGAINST THE BRITISH RAJ."

Netaji: The legend of the forgotten hero – Oneindia

As India struggles being neck-deep in the quagmire of corruption and vested interests, a man 's birthday will quietly pass by. Many say he is the forgotten hero, but to some others he is the unspoken hero who has never got his due. Subhash Chandra Bose or Netaji as he is fondly called, if alive would have turned 114 today on Jan 23.

His contribution to the Indian freedom struggle is at par with the Mahatma, but still in the official circles he is never spoken of in the same vein as Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Nehru or Sardar Vallabhai Patel. The man who quit the prestigious Indian Civil Service, risked his life to flee the nation to raise an armed struggle against the mighty British rulers of India certainly doesn't deserve the snub being meted out.


Though the West Bengal government is said to be celebrating the day as 'Desh Prem Divas', there still has been no initiative from the Central Government to mark the day as a special occasion. There are many far lesser mortals whose birthday is being celebrated as someday or the other but not of this man who for long fought a battle for independence on his own.

Government's apathy towards one of the greatest sons of India has many a times befuddled the billion plus population of the country, but no headway seems to have been achieved in making the man receive the glory he so rightly deserves. He doesn't have a political legacy to advocate his case in the corridors of power, but his actions and patriotism has for ever left an indelible imprint in the hearts of the common man who still love for what he managed to do.

Awards and recognisation can only externally accentuate the place that he has managed to build in the heart of every patriotic Indian, but the lack of them though immaterial to his followers does indeed present the government and the country in poor light.

Bose who advocated complete independence for India at the earliest as opposed to the All-India Congress Committee who wanted it in phases, through Dominion status was born on Jan 23, 1897 in Cuttack. Right from the very beginning he was a brilliant student aand fiercely patriotic.

As was the convention then he appeared for the Civil Services exams and passed out with flying colours. But serving the British was the last thing in his mind.

He worked with the Congress for long, but a difference of opinion with the leadership and the Congress' said failure to save Bhagat Singh from the gallows, prompted him to shun the path of non-violence and resort to radical methods of violence and armed struggle to depose the British from India.

Serving a house-arrest, he quite amazingly slipped from the ruthless British government and went from Hitler to Mussolini to seek their support in overthrowing the British from India. He persevered for long, before eventually managing to form the Indian National Army(INA) that consisted of the POWs of the World War. Limited in resources, his sharp rheteorics inspired thousands to fight for the independence of India. Such was his oratory skills and the fervour to liberate India that in no time, he managed to raise an army of more than a million who walked all the way from Japan to India forgoing food, water and proper rest. They had limited ammunition and the daunting prospect of facing a mighty army, but it was Netaji's sincere dedication that ensured the zeal never waivered.

After initial victory, they gradually began to loose, but not for once did they beat a retreat. Netaji is then said to have died in air-crash, when he was on his way to Japan to seek arms and ammunition. His death in the crash is still under mystery. Some say he survived it but never returned to India where his contribution to the struggle for independence was meted out with indifference.

His death is shrouded in mystery, but those who have keenly followed his life are unwilling to accept the stories and have ever since been pressurising successive governments to make public the enquiry reports of his death probe. As to why it has still not been done does only add credence to the stories of him being alive after the crash and living a life in disguise.

Such is the extent of people's love for him, that most believe he didn't die then and continued to live in disguise because he was too ashamed of the state of affairs in the country, especially the rampant corruption that existed and continues to do even now.

His death not withstanding he still lives in the conscience of a billion Indians and whether his birthday is commemorated officially or not, there will still be millions who will pay homage to the great man and thank God for giving them birth in a country where once lived a soul so noble and a heart so patriotic.

KOLKATA: As Kolkata Municipal Corporation prepares to observe the birth anniversary of Subhash Chandra Bose former CEO of Calcutta Corporation and city mayor on Sunday, officials are also celebrating another momentous occasion the discovery of Netaji's belongings, among which is a gold penstand weighing 2 kg.

The discovery was made courtesy a KMC treasury department employee, who brought the matter to the notice of the civic top brass, who in turn decided that the vault containing Netaji's belongings would be opened in the presence of senior KMC officials. Accordingly, the safe was opened in the presence of municipal commissioner Arnab Roy and controller of municipal finance and accounts Debatosh Dasgupta. Seven revolvers, a rifle, a chest guard and a couple of swords belonging to the Raj era were also found.

Though no KMC official had any idea about the utility of the weapons, some guessed these had been issued in the name of the CEO for his protection. Netaji, an ICS officer, had become the second CEO of Calcutta Corporation from 1924 to 1927. In 1931, he became the mayor of Calcutta, a post he held for eight months.

While the arms have been sent to Kolkata Police headquarters at Lalbazar for renewal of license, civic authorities have tightened security around the vault kept in a secret place for protection of the articles with heritage value. "We are particularly worried about the penstand which is made of pure gold and needs to be protected at all costs. As far as the weapons are concerned, we will have to renew their licenses every two years," a KMC official said.

Earlier, in late 1990s, civic authorities shifted Netaji's chair and a round table which he had used as mayor to the Town Hall museum.

Meanwhile, a special documentary featuring Netaji's life and work as CEO and mayor will be screened on Sunday at KMC headquarters for the civic top brass. According to director Arun Roy, the 27-minute-long documentary will present Netaji as a freedom fighter, an administrator and a philanthropist. "In 1924, Netaji was entitled to a salary of Rs 3,000, but he took only Rs 1,500, which were deposited in his PF to be later used on charitable programmes," Roy said.

The documentary will also show Netaji giving speeches at the historic KMC House, where monthly meetings are now held. This film was earlier screened in 1997, when it was witnessed by Laksmi Sehgal, a freedom fighter who had served the INA. Sehgal praised the documentary which shows mayor Bose leading a protest rally and defying Section 144 clamped down by the British police in front of the civic body headquarters. Netaji had been brutally beaten up and sent to jail for the same.

Platform for living members of INA mooted

GUWAHATI, Jan 23 – The living members of the Indian National Army (INA) who fought under the leadership of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose should be given a platform to relate their tale of bravery and sacrifice so that the present generation can imbibe a sense of responsibility and patriotism for their country.
On the occasion of the 115th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on Sunday, Revenue Minister Dr Bhumidhar Barman made the suggestion to bring together the surviving members of the INA on a common platform.
Speaking at a function organised by the Greater Assam Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Birthday Celebration Committee at Netaji Subhash Chowk, Paltanbazar, Dr Barman dwelt at length on the role of the INA in the independence movement and observed that the young generation which is oblivious of their country's history should be introduced to that chapter of the past which is replete with sacrifices of thousands determined to win freedom for their country.
"The need of the hour is to make our youth aware about their responsibility towards their country and this can be achieved by giving them a chance to know about the heroes of our freedom movement," said Dr Barman.
Prominent citizens Harekrishna Deka, Dr Bani Bhattacharjee and Kumudeswar Hazarika who were honoured with the Netaji Smarak Garima Sanman 2011 at the function also stressed the need for remembering the contribution of the INA in India's freedom struggle.
The function was marked by rendition of patriotic songs befitting to the occasion and the highlight of the day was depiction of Netaji on a canvas by using blood as a medium. This work was done by artist Gautam Bardhan and significantly today’s portrait was the 99th in the blood and brush series of the artist.

Kolkata, Jan 23 (PTI) West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today demanded action against a section of capitalists who have allegedly amassed over Rs 100 lakh crores of unaccounted money in foreign banks. Bhattacharjee said that some rich people in the country had deposited in Swiss or German banks over Rs 100 lakh crores of black money, while a large section of people remained in poverty. "Who are they? We demand steps against them," he said at a function marking the 114th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose as 'Desh Prem Divas'. "Netaji wanted the country to run on the path of socialism and uphold socialist economy after Independence for the benefit of all sections of people. But the country is now under the grip of this 'nasty' capitalism," he said. Bhattacharjee said that a select few cannot be allowed to remain in affluence at the cost of the majority. The chief minister also demanded action against the "unscrupulous elements" involved in the 2G scam. Netaji had dreamt of a socialist economy in independent India with the state's control on major sectors and welfare programmes for the poor, Bhattacharjee said. But unfortunately, he said, market economy had taken a firm root in the country. Welfare policies remained outside the realm of practice and the basic problems remained unsolved even after 64 years of independence. Bhattacharjee after garlanding the statue of Netaji near Raj Bhavan said the state government had declared the day as 'Desh Prem Divas'. He also urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to declare the same nation-wide. District administrations, school, college and other educational institutions have been instructed to observe Netaji's birthday as the 'Desh Prem Divas', he said.

The CM of West Bengal Buddhadeb Bhattacharya proposed to commemorate the birthday of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose as the “Desh Prem Divas” and the schools have been directed to make arrangeents for the celebration. It’s the 114th birth anniversary of the brave soldier who was courageous enough to create his own army by the name of Azad Hind Fauj to challenge the British and all we can do is remember and honor the leader this day.
There has been an RTI application however by activists Chandrachur Ghose and Anuj Dhar who wish to get a copy of the unpublished manuscript detailing the foundation and history of Azad Hind Fauj from the Ministry of Defence and the Delhi Hogh Court has brought a stay order on the CIC’s (Central information Commission) order to issue the same. MoD claims it to be sensitive enough to detriment the economic interests of the country once it goes in private hands and thus the history of the army that Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose relentlessly put together would not be made public any time soon.
On the other hand West Bengal is all set to honor the hero for his contribution towards our independence struggle by a ceremonial march past today followed by a seminar on Netaji in Sisir Mancha to be graced by eminent speakers like Biman Bose the chairperson of Left front and a few others. The CM has also requested for such a celebration throughout the country while Dhar claims that the government is determined to keep everything related to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose a secret even when CIC already ordered for all information about him and mysterious his disappearance in 1945 to be made public in 2009 itself.
It is late but quite a commendable move by the West Bengal government to dedicate the birthday of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose as the “Desh Prem Divas”.

Cuttack, Jan 23 (PTI) Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today laid the foundation stone for Rs 3-crore Tourist Park at Netaji Subash Bose Birthplace Museum at Odia Bazar here and announced that the museum would soon get the status of a National Monument.
The announcement came as the Millennium city reverberated on the day observing Netaji Jayanti on the 114th birth anniversary of the legendary and visionary leader. While the day was celebrated with blood donation camps, marathon races, motorcycle rallies and public meetings, Patnaik inaugurated a massive welcome arch on the western side of the museum. A similar gate had also come up on the eastern limits of the museum last year. The chief minister along with several of his cabinet colleagues, local MP and MLAs and the city mayor paid rich tributes to Netaji after garlanding his statue inside the premises of the museum.
After laying the foundation stone of the Tourist Park, the chief minister hoped that the work for it would begin soon. The park would comprise a water sports complex and landscaping adjacent to the museum.
Besides the official celebrations at his birthplace, special programmes were also held at Stewart School and Christ Collegiate where Netaji had his initial schoolings. Hundreds of school children and people gathered at many places to observe the day with pride and delight.
Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev demanded that Bharat Ratna be conferred on Netaji.

Is it all on the other hand, the West Bengal state to honor the hero for his contribution to the struggle for the independence of our celebration of the day in March followed by a symposium on Netaji by Sisir Mancha to be honored by Eminent speakers such as Biman Bose, Left Front Chairman and some others. The Council also asked the minister to celebrate like this in all regions of the country, while claiming to Dhar that the government is determined to keep everything related to the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose secret, even when prescribed by the Department Citizenship and Immigration, in fact, all information about him and his mysterious escape in 1945 to be in the year 2009 itself.
But it is too good a commendable step by the Government of West Bengal state to spend vacation anniversary Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.
